At Kimera, we offer three levels of customization: off-the-rack, special order, and custom design. These options provide our customers with the flexibility to select the best level of service appropriate for their needs and budget. All of our garments are handmade in our Brooklyn studio, with the same attentiveness to quality and detail.
We keep a limited inventory of stock items in our Brooklyn shop, including generally a size range in each style. However, you will be limited to whatever color we have in stock. These items can be purchased in person, via phone, or online for immediate shipment. We can usually also produce any of our styles in standard sizes in any color of silk shantung, usually at no additional cost (production time may vary from 2-6 weeks). This is best for someone who fits well into our standard sizes, requires an item quickly, or is looking for the most affordable option. We do offer alterations at an additional cost.
SPECIAL ORDER (Made-to-Measure)
This is our most popular option as it provides the customer with a custom fit while also giving them the option of selecting from our standard style options and fabrics. We work from our standard patterns but customize the fit and details. Some fairly simple style adjustments are also possible for an additional fee as are custom fabric options. The exact pricing surcharge generally varies from $75-100 depending on the extra work entailed and includes alterations. Delivery times may vary. We generally recommend 4-6 months for wedding dresses and bridal parties. All other orders require 4-8 weeks.
We offer this service primarily for wedding dresses, but it is an excellent option for anyone who has specific design or fitting requirements. During the design process, we will work closely with the customer to discuss ideas, fabric, and styling and finalize a completely customized one-of-a-kind garment. We will then proceed with a custom pattern and muslin fitting garment based on our discussions and detailed measurements. We then cut the actual fabric and require several fittings with the garment in various stages of creation. This is a fairly involved and collaborative process, usually requiring a minimum of 4 months and 4-6 fittings. Prices will start at $1000 and up.
